"Clone" a List?
(wss3) I created a list, added metadata, and attached some views to it. I need to clone this list, using different names, several times in the same site. Can this be done? Any suggestions how to do this appreciated.TIA,Barkingdog

Hi,Yes you can. On the list settings page, there is a "Save list as template" link. Once you have saved the list as a template, you can create a new list from the create page, that is an exact copy of the saved list (with a different name of course).Paul.

(with a different name of course) Actually if used in a different site in the same site collection it could be the same name. The "different name of course" would only apply when used in the same site as the original.FAQ sites: (SP 2010) http://wssv4faq.mindsharp.com; (v3) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com and (WSS 2.0) http://wssv2faq.mindsharp.com Complete Book Lists (incl. foreign language) on each site.

You can also create a custom content type using SharePoint designer, add necessary columns to it and then create as many lists as you wish and add this content type to each. The benefit of this is that any changes applied to the content type will apply to the lists that use the content type.
